In the human swarmed streets of Mathura, one of the most valued & holiest shrine resides – Shri Krishna Janambhoomi. It is believed to be the birthplace of Lord Shri Krishna.

About the temple:

The most famous temple of Mathura, the Krishna Janambhoomi Temple, built around the prison cell where Krishna was born after his parents Mata Devaki & Vasudeva were imprisoned by his evil maternal uncle, Kansa, king of Mathura.

The temple was built by the great grandson of Krishna, Vajranabha in the 6th century BC. The temple was attacked many times and has been renovated several times over the centuries, as the place saw a series of rulers. 

Major Attractions of Temple:

The massive complex will immerse you in spiritual emotions. It houses various ‘Jhankis’ that are depicted in the form of paintings and represent the deity life. How the Krishna has gone through the difficulties of his life. The miracles he has done in his childhood and the words of wisdom he had said in his life. The premises comprise the idol of Krishna, Balrama, the elder brother of Krishna and his beloved lady, Radha. A stepped water tank is also present in the Janambhoomi temple to send water to the jails in that era. 

The current temple after the of major renovation project that was carried out in the 20th century, comprises the beautiful Keshavdeva Temple, with the garbha griha (sanctum sanctorum), and the Bhagavata Bhavan. Inside the complex is a small shrine dedicated to Lord Krishna adorned with ornaments and a temple for Yogmaya Devi, the Daughter of Nand Baba. 

The temple is surrounded by pedestrian lanes of market with shops selling religious paraphernalia. There is a library, an Ayurveda Bhavan and an international guest house for visitors to explore.

Entry Fees, Aarti Timings & Mandir Opening Timings:

There is no Entry Fees to visit the temple and the Mandir timings are 5:00am to 12:00pm in the morning & 4:00pm to 9:30 pm in the evening. The timings are subjected to change on special occasions, festivals & events. 

The Mangal Aarti timings in Summers is 5:30am & in winters is 6:30am. While the Sandhya Aarti timings are 6:00pm in summers & 5:00pm in winters. The Krishna have the Makhan Bhog at 8:00am.
